About Us

We are a small local charity, with a Board of Trustees

We are a charity set up in 1994 to help reduce loneliness amongst local older people. We support  older people to be happier

What we do

Our main priority is to provide opportunities and support for older people, aged 60 and above, in Bramley, Swinnow, and parts of Stanningley.

Whether it’s arranging social events, helping people meet each other, assisting with the weekly shop or just a voice at the other end of the phone - we’re here to help.

How do we do it?

We are one of nearly 40 Neighbourhood Network Schemes in Leeds, promoting the independence, health and wellbeing of older people throughout the city!

Our services are carried out by paid staff and volunteers, and we have over 1,000 members! BEA is run by a Board of Trustees made up of local people.

What else?

Since 2011, BEA has also delivered a Neighbourhood Network Scheme called Older Wiser Local Seniors (OWLS), which supports older people in the neighbouring Headingley, Hyde Park, Burley and Kirkstall areas of Leeds.

BEA is also custodian - for the wider community - of Bramley Community Centre and Bramley Lawn Social Centre.

Bramley Community Shop is run by our social enterprise, UpBEAt CIC.

Where do we operate?

Bramley, Swinnow, and parts of Stanningley.

Take a look at the map which shows the boundary from which we can accept members.
