  1. What’s your volunteer role?
I volunteer as a passenger assistant for groups such as lunch club and exercise class, I’ve also recently become a befriender. One of my main roles is in the fundraising group where we have been organising events and sponsorship activities to help raise funds for BEA.Harriet Newton
  2. How long have you been a volunteer?
    Since January 2015
  3. Why did you get involved?
I am currently a student at Leeds Beckett University and as I am only in two days a week I wanted to spend my spare time doing something proactive and worthwhile as well as meeting new people along the way.
  4. Three words that sum up BEA for you?
    Supportive, Friendly and Crucial
  5. What do you get out of volunteering?
I’ve enjoyed getting to know the members during the group trips as well as through befriending. I will also be experiencing new challenges through the Fundraising Group. Being a volunteer also gets me more involved with the community and is a good way to spend my spare time.
  6. What else do you like doing?
I enjoy socialising with my friends, reading and being outdoors. One of the sponsorship events that we are organising in the fundraising group is to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in September so I need to be training for that.
  7. Where were you born?
I was born at home, in a village called Skelmanthorpe.
  8. What’s your favourite film?
    The Great Escape
  9. And your favourite book?
The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald
  10. Tell us one interesting fact about yourself
Last year I completed the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, it was a gruelling few days, but worth it at the end.
